My artist statement is a quote from Sherlock Holmes: "Art in the blood is liable to take the strangest forms." That being said, my painting philosophy is simple. I am skeptical about complex esoteric conceptual analysis of art. I simply try to make beautiful paintings that make people feel good about being alive.

“Legs”

Awhile back, someone told me of a girl who had her boyfriend take photos of her legs in various locations for her website. I haven't seen her site but I thought it was an unusual idea so I decided to to a series of leg paintings and here they are.

“Whimsical Acrylics”

For me, art should sometimes be playful and fun as well as being serious. This is a series of whimsical acrylic paintings on heavy artist's Strathmore board. They are meant to make you smile.

Ron was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. When he was about 5 years old, his Aunt Marguerite bought him a Weber oil painting set with 6-8 small tubes of paint, a small jar of turpentine and one of linseed oil, two brushes and a wooden palette. The two of them spent many hours at her house learning to paint together.

Ron drew and painted all through childhood and his school years, taking three art classes in his senior year in high school. In college at Virginia Commonwealth University, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art. After college, he worked a number of art-related jobs, including several years as a comic book colorist on titles such as Mighty Mouse and Miracle Man. He also owned a company that did restoration and renovation on antebellum and Victorian homes in historic Church Hill in Richmond.

Later on, life and work and being the father of two girls took up most of his time and he painted only occasionally for twenty years. In 2007, he decided to get seriously back into making art. Since then he has worked steadily in oil, acrylics and watercolor. His work has appeared in many juried shows, he has had several one-man shows, won several awards, and his work is in a number of private collections throughout the United States.
