Everything inspires me.
Sadness, Joy, Love, Agony, Loss.
I’ve been drawing since I could crawl and remember my father showing off my scribbles like he was holding up the Mona Lisa.
Artists like Marc Chagall and Amedeo Modigliani have been huge inspirations throughout my visual career, their dream like landscapes influenced my exploration of visual story telling.
I am a romantic at heart and my image making is always sculpted from a deep interest in what it is to be human.
At the root of my work is an exploration of the human condition, humanity and our inter connectedness with each other and to the universe that we exist in.
I examine how we are a part of it and how, in a fractal way, it tells our story.
By employing the surrealist eye I make images that de construct the normal, say a head or a tree, and then reassemble that object, presenting it in a way that exists impossibly but at the same time, entirely plausibly and logically within the visual framework of the workspace that I have provided for it.
Sometimes this is achieved in a “sculptural” sense, where the image has literally been cut, re shaped and re assembled into a new form.
Other times the single image is constructed of a multi layered assemblage of many smaller, inter connected images and motifs to create the whole scene and to deliver the intended message.
A message that for me, always seems to come back to, “we are the sum everything, both physical and emotional, internal and external”.
My art is a sum of that everything.
