Concept

Paula Aranoa was born in Argentina although San Pablo, Mexico City and Barcelona are her second homes and left a strong mark on her. She studied philosophy, fashion and garden design. Until photography arrived. When she finally had a camera in her hands she knew that everything previously received had been nothing more than tributaries that carried the same water to a river more properly hers. Naturally and spontaneously, philosophy, art and design converged on the same passion: photography. Exercising the look, deepen into the apparent, meeting the mystery and receiving the astonishment give meaning to her life. The camera is the tool that encourages her to question reality and at the same time let it question herself. Photography offers her the power to unmask the everyday and reveal it as a treasure worthy of being portrayed and shared. Post production occupies a very important place in her work. It is during the time that she invest in the dialogue with the image, when the message behind is revealed more clearly. Black and white represent for her the abstraction of all colors and their absence. She chooses them because of the climate they generate without distracting the viewer from the essentials: the person, his life, his places, his emotions and the light that embraces them all.

Biography

My name is Paula Aranoa and I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1966. I studied philosophy and design in various branches. Until photography came: it is my passion and way of life.
At the beginning my work was more documentary. Over time it was transformed. Ideas and concepts took on more and more relevance, and objectivity took a back seat. I had something to convey that went beyond the record of what I saw. In that process postproduction became a great ally. Developing a sense of amazement is an essential part of my job.
I attended to the EAF (Escuela Argentina de Fotografía) and workshops at Diego Ortiz Mujica photography academy. Also participated on Vivian Galvan and Ana Sanchez Zinny virtual workshops in Buenos Aires.
Most of my work is black and white. I was selected top 50 in the Agora Awards world contest 35 times, including a TOP 50 world best agoraawards2019/2020, exhibited in Barcelona, Spain. I also had the honor of having been summoned to be a judge in the Agora Awards # blackandwhite2019 contest.
- During 2020 my work "Confidents" was selected to participate in the Buenos Aires Art Experience and my work "Sword made flower" was exhibited in Agora Gallery NY digitally as an emerging artist's work.
- I am also collaborating with Sony at https://alphauniverse-latin.com giving a seminar on “Black and White Art Photography”.
