Internal feelings of loss, curiosity, serenity, and depression are understood and communicated though a mixture of materials and textures extending from film strips, x-ray slides and yarns of natural fibers. Working with these materials challenges me to improvise ways to manipulate and focus on the medium’s use, in addition to discovering connections of meaning through color and texture. Inside the methodology of weaving, the manual stages and movements of weaving performs as a health-giving, restorative experience for myself in relation to practicing ideas of mindfulness.

Variations of blue, from deep indigo to “Eeyore” blue-gray to pale blue, commonly repeats and is a component of my work’s identity. Other colors I manipulate with such as black, white, brown, and yellow, reflect from collections of found images as well as my own landscape and film photography.

My work unifies my abstract ideas and memories into evident pieces.The concepts and meanings of my textile work sustains my value of memory, signification of identity, and recognitions of my individualized culture and cultural identity. To my way of thinking, the existence of textiles allow us to communicate our stories and exchange memories of passed time.
