Le Closier (Philippe Colpaert) is a Belgian painter who grew up in Brussels, Belgium and has lived in the US since 2016.

Le Closier (Philippe Colpaert) is a Belgian painter who grew up in Brussels, Belgium and has lived in the US since 2016.
After graduating from business school, he chose to begin a career in the music industry as a singer, producer and songwriter.
In 1990, he was nominated at the “Victoires de la Musique” (French Grammies) for his song “Dans ma Rue”.
He then moved to Paris and for 20 years he collaborated with top selling French artists as a producer and songwriter.
In the early 2000s, mixing Pop Art and Street Art, he started painting on the walls of his Montparnasse neighborhood in Paris (famous in the 50's for being the gathering point of writers and painters i.e Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Picasso, Matisse, Cézanne, Modigliani....).
Though it started as a hobby, it has became his main activity since 2012 when he developed a unique urban style which is a mix between Pop Art (Warhol, Basquiat, Lichtenstein, Keith Haring...) and street art (Banksy, Blek le Rat, Miss Tic, Mr. Brainwash, ....).
A few years later, Le Closier has made official portraits for tennis players (Serena Williams, Kei Nishikori, Gustavo "Guga" Kuerten, Bryan Brothers, David Goffin, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jeremy Chardy), American golf player Cristie Kerr or Paris-Saint-Germain's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi (among others).
In May 2016, his portrait of Chief Justice Stephen Breyer, member of the US Supreme Court, was offered to him at the French Embassy in Washington, DC.
Le Closier creates colorful compositions inspired by celebrities, arts, comics, fashion..., mixing people, brands and symbols in colorful compositions.
He likes to play with deep contrasts, mixing black with bright acrylic colors.
