Pen is the powerful tool, is mainly used for expressing thoughts, opinions. However, it has some limitations as reader must be able to read the manuscript to understand. I use pen as medium for my drawings to reach out to the global audience irrespective of age, gender, literacy, caste, religion, nationality etc. Through pen drawings I try to communicate with viewers by way of exploring and expressing the human figures, personalities; their feelings, emotions, aspirations etc.

Lines & curves have great power to express oneself and blank spaces speak a lot. Even single color drawings can create wonders. I try to explore various objects, figures, faces, through lines, curves & blank spaces. For me, making drawing on canvas using single colored pen is an enjoyable experience. I use Uniball eye (UB 157) color ink pens. I mainly use Black, Blue, Red and Green colored pens which are waterproof. Black ink pen is my favorite.

My drawings are like puzzle, when one starts exploring the drawing minutely, viewer is able to see the figures and objects hidden in it, and also realize the meaning hidden in intricate design. Explore and enjoy the drawings.

Born in 1971, Purushottam lives in Pune, India.
Purushottam is very much influenced by Indian heritage and Architecture especially Indian temples, stone carvings, sculptures and temple borders. Purushottam has also got inspiration from - Rangolis from different parts of India, Miniature paintings, Warli, Madhubani, Gond and other traditional art forms. Being a social worker, he has travelled a lot in rural and tribal parts of India. Hence Women and rural life have also become subjects of his drawings. Apart from rich Indian heritage, Purushottam is trying to highlight the problems of Tribal / Rural folks, Rich-Poor as well as Urban-Rural divide through his drawings.
In his childhood, Purushottam was not inclined towards art. It was only after graduation, he started realizing his potential. As he kept travelling to rural and tribal areas for his professional work, Ink pen and paper was the suitable medium for him and he started drawing designs. Over the years he has developed his own style of drawing which is very unique in nature. It was only three years ago, (in 2018) Purushottam started using pen on canvas. His drawings have been liked by men and women from various backgrounds from different States of India.
Prima facie, his drawings looks like flat intricate designs, but when one sees it minutely, figures, objects and meanings hidden in the designs come to the foreground and could be explored and enjoyed.
Purushottam has not received any formal education in fine arts. He is a self made artist, practicing his art for more than 25 years.
Purushottam has done M.Sc. & Ph.D. in Health Sciences and works as freelance consultant for national level NGOs. Since last 11 years, he is working for the underprivileged tribal communities in Maharashtra State (India) through his own Voluntary Organization. He would like to dedicate all his time for the social work & would also like to serve poor people through the sale proceedings.
