The highly expressive mixed media work of Luis Nessi is a showcase of his current desire for experimenting with different media, mixing the figurative lines with whimsical shapes. In his abstract work, he seems to heavily experiment with line quality and ranging scale within organic forms. In his figure studies and portraits, there is an almost fantasy element incorporated in his expressive gestures. He does not follow a structure or rules of composition, but focus on finding a balance and harmony among the arrange of shapes and forms, aiming to create a piece that invites the eye to register every corner and space, not going straight from A to B but instead, in a sort of controlled but also chaotic manner.
He also favors the use of vintage and discarded paper in his illustrations and mixed media work, and avoids throwing away rejected sketches or finished pieces, recycling and repurposing by means of collage work, in an ongoing series called SecondChance. Digital coloring of his traditional work is also enjoyed and used as a way to find alternate finished pieces, as well as learning and practicing digital illustration and painting.
Although he finds inspiration in different subjects and art forms, there is rarely a subject or defined theme behind the creation of each piece. It is, instead, his curiosity and desire of experimentation regarding techniques and use of the different materials he has at his studio, what inspires him to create different series of works.
