Artist Statement] Focusing on the perceptual differences and illusions that arise between photographs and paintings, I create works that explore the artistic value of photography. The artist's work explores the artistic value of photography, focusing on the perceptual differences and illusions that arise between photography and painting. The concept of this exhibition is the ultimate exploration of this movement using modern technology in the context of Pictorialism. Although his works are photographs, they are printed on hand-painted plaster or plaster to give them a unique matiere that cannot be reproduced, and by using pearl powder or plaster, they incorporate the luminosity and three-dimensional texture of rock paints. He calls this technique "mimetic painting," which aims to connect photographs to the context of paintings. Since the year 2020, our lives have changed drastically. Many connections have been severed, wars, epidemics, depressions, assassinations, extreme weather.... As the world rushes to "reconnect" with each other, many of us have realized that what we take for granted as "just being there" is actually not the case. In the past few years, I have witnessed the deaths of many people, including celebrities, and on a personal note, I have also seen the birth and growth of new life, the hope of my relatives, and have increasingly felt the "connection" from the past to the future on a time axis. Human beings are social animals and cannot live alone. I am aware of this, and from my own childhood experience, I am categorized as rather poor at socializing with others. Therefore, I wanted to create a work that connects to someone's heart, using people as the subject matter. In the "No Colors" series, which does not depict colors, the artist focuses on the many "connections" that have been broken up by the Corona, and while the photographs are highly figurative portraits, by daring not to express "presence," the artist has created a "human figure" that is cloaked in "nothingness" and "stillness," like a doll that serves as a receptacle for the heart and emotions. The "Hitogata" is a receptacle for hearts and emotions like a doll. The white and gray parts of the figure represent death, while the red lips represent life, and the two contradictory yet continuous images of reincarnation suggest a "connection" along the time axis from the past to the future. I will be happy if this work will be a source of comfort for someone someday.
