Banksy is known as a masked artist.
He has painted murals calling for anti-war in conflict zones around the world, including Palestine.
A mural was also painted in a conflict zone in Ukraine last November that appeared to criticize the Russian invasion. Seven murals were found in and around the capital city of Khiu.
Banksy has continued to show his support for Ukraine by releasing charity works.

Banksy's Relationship with the Ukrainian Invasion

In connection with the invasion of Ukraine, Banksy first made headlines by painting seven murals in the Kieu area, and then announced his donation to Ukraine by presenting a charity work.
One of these murals was released as a commemorative postage stamp.

Where were the seven murals painted?

In November 2022, seven murals were discovered in and around Kieu.
The authenticity of the murals was proven by the release of a video containing the actual videos produced by the official Instagram account.
Borodjanka, one of the towns where the murals were painted, is a residential area about 50 km northwest of the Ukrainian capital of Khiu.
It was one of the worst-hit towns near Khiu, with housing complexes collapsing and more than 200 people missing as a result of the Russian invasion.
Even now that the Russian army has retreated, the town still bears the scars of the attack.

The first mural

The first work published on Instagram was a statue of a young girl posing upside down on the rubble. In the town of Irpin, which was also severely damaged, a statue of a girl with a supporter around her neck and holding a ribbon was painted. Both are reminiscent of Russia, a country known as a rhythmic gymnastics powerhouse.

Mural on a truck

In the city of Kieu, a work of art of a military truck with a "Z" mark was found.
In this iconography, the original graffiti on the male genitalia has been replaced by a cannon.
There are many theories as to the meaning of the "Z," but it is a mark that appears on Russian military equipment and has become a widespread symbol of support for the invasion of Ukraine.

Judo mural that became a postage stamp and other murals

judo
There is a painting of an adult being thrown by a child in judo, which has been used on postage stamps in Ukraine.
This one is taken as ironic, as it depicts Putin himself being thrown around in judo, a hobby of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Another painting depicts an elderly man washing himself in a bath on the wall of an abandoned dwelling.
Other paintings include a woman wearing a gas mask and holding a fire extinguisher, and a steel placed in front of a wall that looks like a seesaw.

Local people's reactions

Residents who remain within Ukraine and near the actual location where the murals were painted have said the following
It was a month ago, maybe longer... I think it was around noon. I was walking around and I saw him working here. I didn't think he was that famous, so I didn't see his face, but he looked about 40 years old. I didn't think he was that famous. I didn't see his face directly, but he looked about 40 years old. There were people around, but I don't remember how many.
The only thing that changed after the painting was done was that more people came to see it. I think it should be properly protected because it was probably painted by a famous artist. But how are they going to transport it? If it was painted on a piece of wood, it would be easy to talk about."

Launch of Charity Prints

Banksy, who stands for "solidarity with the people of Ukraine," announced that he would release a charity print after unveiling the mural.
All proceeds will be donated to pay for the activities of an organization that supports Ukraine.
Banksy's way of supporting Ukraine was to bring the country back to the public's attention by releasing a mural like this one.
