Asami Nenoki

9s Gallery is pleased to present "Nostalgic Tomorrow," a solo exhibition by Asami Nenoki from December 16, 2022 to December 20, 2022. This will be her first solo exhibition at the gallery.

Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1991, Asami Nenoki is an artist who paints the shifting sky with delicate gradations, creating landscapes beyond reality on vivid canvases. Her paintings transcend the landscape seen as a phenomenon, enveloping the viewer with tranquility and nostalgia.
Through landscapes and their colors, the artist continues to explore the theme of "something that never changes" and "something that never becomes nostalgic.

The work depicts landscapes at various times of the day, and uses light tones of blue, yellow ochre, and black as the primary colors. The details of the clouds and the sea seem to even breathe as the artist paints.

Artist Statement

Everything is changing.
Your body, the abilities you have acquired, the relationships you have with your loved ones, the memories you thought you would never forget.

Everything continues to evolve and regress.
Nothing is unstoppable.
Something that you take for granted that is in your life right now.
It is a miracle that it is still there.

That is why I am always looking for something that will never change.
I am always looking for something that will never change, something that will never make me nostalgic.
I feel that the changes in the sky, which have been repeated over a tremendously long period of time, have entered a circle and gained permanence by continuing to change.

In the midst of everything changing
I am looking for a moment that does not change, a moment that has been able to repeat itself through change.
I wish to vividly depict the warmth and beauty felt through human eyes.
I hope to vividly depict these moments with the warmth and beauty felt through human eyes.

Something Not Nostalgic", "Something Unchanging"

The skyscape reflected in Asami Nenoki's eyes is the only one that will remain forever, while everything else is changing.
In this exhibition, the artist's vision is carefully selected and expressed through 11 paintings created between 2021 and 2022.
